Marriage

Through Sacramental Marriage, a man and a woman enter a covenant of love and mission. This covenant unites a couple in faithful and mutual love, opens their hearts and minds to giving life, is their response to God’s call to holiness, and is a sign of Christ’s love in the world.

If you are engaged and looking for a place for your wedding, Congratulations on your engagement! We rejoice with you on your decision to invite Christ into your marriage.

Celebrating the Sacrament of Marriage at Mary, Mother of the Church

Our Marriage preparation ministers are excited to assist couples preparing to be married in the Catholic Church. The first step in planning your wedding at Mary Mother is to call the parish office to determine church and presider availability. Give yourself plenty of time; it takes approximately nine to twelve months to prepare to receive the sacrament (a minimum of six months). Your preparation includes the taking of a pre-marital inventory, working with a mentor couple to discuss the inventory as it relates to your marriage, and learning practical tools to use for a long and fruitful life together. Engaged couples also attend a marriage preparation retreat, a liturgy planning workshop and an initial and final meeting with your presider.

Designed by the Office for Marriage, Family and Life, the Living God’s Love Marriage Preparation Program offers engaged couples the opportunity to prepare for the Sacrament of Marriage. Offered in a weekend format, Living God’s Love is structured to help engaged couples reflect on the beauty and richness of the Church’s teachings on marriage and the family.

Couples receive presentations by priests, educators, physicians and married couples that share the beauty of the Church’s teaching about the vocation of marriage as a call to holiness and a gift of self. The Archdiocese offers the weekend program every month of the year, with the exception of December.

If you were married outside of the Catholic Church, you may seek to have your union officially recognized by the Church. In technical Church terms, this is known as convalidation of a marriage. Having your marriage recognized by the Church allows you to receive the fullness of the sacraments and grace.
